Michael White began his building career almost 40 years ago, getting his start with a French-Canadian construction company while still a teenager. He went into business for himself shortly thereafter, opening his own cabinet shop in central Massachusetts that provided custom woodworking services for both the residential and commercial sectors while Michael continued to hone his craft as a carpenter. He also sharpened his design skills, learning drafting techniques and drawing his own plans for many projects.
Michael moved with his family to the Berkshires in the 1970s, and went about establishing himself as a general contractor. His reputation quickly grew, thanks in large part to his fascination and expertise with post-and-beam and other period construction techniques, examples of which remain prevalent throughout Berkshire County. As his customer base grew Michael began recruiting other established area craftsmen to join his team, in effect transforming Michael White Contractors from a single master carpenter into a crew of skilled tradesmen that would eventually number more than a dozen.
Today Michael White prides himself on having put together one of Southern Berkshire County's most able and talented construction teams, and also with having remained involved in an intensively hands-on manner with virtually every facet of every job the company has ever undertaken. Michael's creative insight and input have enabled him to work seamlessly with some of the area's most talented architects and designers, and such a collaboration once garnered a feature story in Berkshire HomeStyle magazine.
